How Much Should I Tip My Tour Guide?

One of the most common questions we get in the Original Berlin Walks office is “how much should I tip my tour guide?”

Anything you give will be appreciated, but you don’t have to give anything if you don’t want to.

One of the greatest things about guiding is meeting people from all over the world and learning a little bit about them and where they’re from. Some travellers join us from tipping cultures, like the USA, others come from places that you might think are similar but are actually the exact opposite, like Australia.

For some people, Berlin is a quick, cheap weekend break. For others they’ve saved up for years to just come here and walk through the Brandenburg Gate. There are all sorts of different cultures, ideas, expectations and budgets in a Berlin tour group. At Original Berlin Walks we’re proud to teach anyone about Berlin and its history. If you pay for the ticket, you can come along. If you think that your guide did an exceptional job and performed beyond your expectations then please feel free to give them a little extra cash, it does make a difference. If you don’t want to, or especially if you can’t afford to, then don’t give anything, that’s ok too.
