Where To See The Berlin Wall Today

The Berlin Wall was huge, but now the pieces of it can be hard to find. Find out where to see the remaining sections of the Berlin Wall.

Today, August 13 2021, marks 60 years since the Berlin Wall went up!

Even though it was roughly 160km/100 miles long most of the Berlin Wall is gone for good. There are many little pieces of the Berlin Wall scattered about the city, but there are three parts most people want to visit. Each one is a little different and it’s actually worth visiting all three.

So, where are the remaining parts of the Berlin Wall, and how can you see them?

Pay Respects and learn all about the Berlin Wall at the Berlin Wall Memorial

The Berlin Wall Memorial at Bernauer Strasse, officially called the “Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer” is so much more than a memorial. A long stretch of the former “Death Strip” has been turned in mixture of a memorial, park, and museum. Learn how the Wall was built, see where tunnels were dug by both spies and escapees, and get a great view over the city from

You can see the Berlin Wall Memorial with an expert guide on the Original Berlin Walks East Berlin walking tour.

See the Berlin Wall in the city centre

There’s a stretch of the Berlin Wall right in the city centre, near to Checkpoint Charlie. In fact, I’d say that most visitors come across this part of the Berlin Wall completely by accident! You can find it next to the excellent Topography of Terror museum at the corner of Niederkirchenerstrasse and Wilhelmstrasse.

Graffiti on the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery

The East Side Gallery is the longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall, and even claims to be the world’s longest open-air art gallery! You’ll find the East Side Gallery between two train stations, Ostbahnhof and Warschauer Strasse, both on Berlin’s S-Bahn light rail network. I recommend starting at the Ostbahnhof end as finishing at the Warschauer Strasse end is more fun!

But didn’t the Berlin Wall “fall”?

The “fall” of the Berlin Wall is metaphoric. It doesn’t stop people from asking us if anyone got hurt when it fell, though.
